mary rose ship sinking

The Mary Rose sank at the front of an English fleet of about 80 ships which were doggedly defending England from a French invasion. The French fleet of around 200 ships, carrying an army 30,000 strong , was anchored just off the eastern end of the Isle of Wight. The Mary Rose was one of King Henry VIII's favourite warships until she sank during an engagement with the French fleet on 19 July 1545. Her rediscovery and raising were seminal events in the history of nautical archaeology. English ship Mary Rose (1650) was a 32-gun ship, possibly a hired merchant
